U.S. Steel said it will idle a portion of its iron ore plant in Mount Iron, Minn., effective June 1, because of a downturn in the steel business. The Pittsburgh steelmaker blamed some of the problem on imports.

Recro Pharma Inc. signed a definitive agreement Monday to acquire the rights to an experimental pain medicine and a contract manufacturing facility from Alkermes in a deal valued at up to $170 million. Under the terms of the agreement, Recro Pharma of Malvern, Pa., will make an upfront payment of $50 million to Alkermes .

United Furniture buys former Lane plant for $1.45M

United Furniture Industries and McCormick Drive LLC had bid on the facility, which was a former office and warehouse for Lane. - the umbrella company for Lane, Broyhill, Thomasville, Drexel Heritage, Maitland Smith and other furniture companies that were once part of the now-defunct Furniture Brands International - said it was auctioning 17 Thomasville and Lane properties in all, mostly in North Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee.
