Alphabet was further confronted with a number three fine from the EU, now EUR 1.49 billion over unfair competition with the Google AdSense platform. The Telecompaper Stock Index Global Consumer Media ended week 12 with a loss of 1.6 percent. The Dow Jones Industrials index lost 1.3 percent.

(Telecompaper) Google has received its third multi-billion-euro fine from the European Union for anti-competitive practices. The company was fined EUR 1.49 billion for abusing its dominance in the search intermediary market with its AdSense for Search product for advertising on third-party websites offering search engines. The Commission said restrictive clauses in the AdSense contracts prevented Google's rivals from placing their search adverts on these websites.

The move follows a fine from EU competition authorities for Google abusing its dominant position in the search market by bundling its own apps with the Android system.
