We are currently looking for a Structures Engineer to support our customer in the Netherlands. Structures Engineer Key Tasks and Responsibilities You will have the following responsibilities Support the generation and setup of structural mathematical models using the finite element method for structural analysis problems for Agencyfunded projects, taking into account the specific objectives of such analysis, covering all structural materials applied in spacecraft and launchers. Where necessary nonlinear approaches and specific solution sequences shall be applieddeveloped e.g. Nastran SOL 600, SamcefMecano, Abaqus Perform stability analysis leading to the determination of buckling loads and deformations. Where necessary the post buckling behaviour shall be addressed, adequate nonlinear approaches used, and where relevant specific solution sequences shall be developed Implement stochastic tools and methodologies where relevant, e.g. based on tools like STORM and MatLab Support the generation and setup of mathematical models for structural thermoelastic stability problems for Agency funded projects, taking into account specific requirements attached to this type of analysis Perform the interpolation of the temperature maps as resulting from thermal analysis for their employment in finite element structural analysis Evaluate critically the results and the loads and issue relevant documentation Perform tasks covering space vehicle structural engineering including advanced structural dynamics analysis. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience A university degree or equivalent in aeronautical or mechanical engineering Several years of experience in the field of light structures for all relevant structural materials, loads derivation and modelling Experience with advanced structural analysis Adequate knowledge in the employment of the following software Nastran including nonlinear, DMAPs etc., Patran, DCAP, Simpack, Dytran, SamcefMecano, Abaqus, STORM or others as necessary to cover the analyses required Excellent written and spoken English is essential. You will ensure detailed structure and design of spacecrafts. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Supports the Project Responsible Engineer during the lifecycle of the project. Is accountable to the Responsible Engineer for the detailed design of those structural items defined by the Responsible Engineer. Must liaise with transverse engineering and manufacturing groups and with the project team and other organisations to optimise the design definition and to ensure that all structural requirements for those items defined by the Responsible Engineer are met. Is responsible for the detailed checking of manufacturing drawings to ensure compliance with the structural design requirements. Attends Team and Interface meetings to develop and maintain familiarity with the project. Is responsible for the release of Advanced Order BOMs, BOMs, and ECOs etc in PDM, in accordance with Responsible Engineer requirements, and with signoff in accordance with the applicable design delegation matrix. Is responsible for supporting the Responsible Engineer in the provision of design documentation as required to support project reviews. Is responsible for producing, early during the Customisation phase, a drawing release plan, endorsed by the project Responsible Engineer. This plan is to be regularly updated during the design lifecycle. Is responsible for supporting the Responsible Engineer with workpackage management activities as required. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Background in Engineering Design Proven experience in Design of Structures within the Space or Aerospace industry Working knowledge of Spacecraft Structures Design techniques and methods Knowledge of Tolerances Knowledge of Manufacturing Processes Appreciation of the relevant design drivers and associated manufacturing issues in their specialist field. Probabilistic and Stochastic Tools You shall be capable of implementing stochastic tools and methodologies in any of the above analysis domains when relevant, e.g. based on tools like STORM and MatLab. Qualifications and Requirements Applicants require a minimum of a Masters degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline together with a minimum of 4 years working within a structures environment. Specific Competence Requirements Responsible for the generation of the finite element mathematical models shall be a structural analysts with several years of experience in the field of light structures for all relevant structural materials, loads derivation and modelling in the above relevant fields.
