In the debate over net neutrality, AT&T and Cisco are warning that fiber optic cable rollouts could be delayed -- and revenues lost -- if President Obama's recently proposed rules move ahead. Critics argue that those threats are overblown, that AT&T doesn't really have 100 cities ready for fiber installs anyway and while Cisco might lose out, it's been losing revenues from the likes of AT&T for a long time, regardless of this week's brouhaha.

Do Net Neutrality Rules Hinder Management of Wireless Networks?

The Open Technology Institute Thursday announced new research that it says proves net neutrality will not hinder the management of wireless networks. OTI claims the study, which was conducted by CTC Technology and Energy, "demonstrates the fallacy of wireless industry claims that adherence to strong network neutrality protections for consumers and for edge providers is not technically feasible for mobile carrier networks."

P&F Industries' sales jump, net inches higher

P&F Industries Inc., a Melville maker of air-powered tools and residential hardware, Wednesday posted a 12 percent increase in revenue for the third quarter, but a less than 1 percent increase in net income as selling, general and administrative expenses climbed. Revenue rose to $22.9 million from $20.5 million in the 2013 quarter, but net income inched up to $816,000 from $810,000.
FCC Chair Asserts Independence in Net Neutrality Fracas

FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler has responded to the White House's proposal for Net neutrality rules by reasserting his agency's independence in a meeting with executives of Google, Yahoo and other Internet companies following President Obama's Monday call to action. The president urged the FCC to ensure Net neutrality by interpreting Title II of the Telecommunications Act to govern ISPs.
