SingTel group net profit grows 19% in Q2

(Telecompaper) In the second quarter ended 30 September Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) group saw its net profit increase by 19 percent to SGD 1.04 billion, despite adverse currency movements. In constant currency terms, net profit would have jumped 22 percent, the company said. Revenue increased by 4 percent to SGD 4.31 billion from strong performances in ICT services, mobile data growth and equipment sales in Singapore and Australia, and higher digital marketing revenue. EBITDA climbed 3 percent to SGD 1.33 billion.
P&F Industries' sales jump, net inches higher

P&F Industries Inc., a Melville maker of air-powered tools and residential hardware, Wednesday posted a 12 percent increase in revenue for the third quarter, but a less than 1 percent increase in net income as selling, general and administrative expenses climbed. Revenue rose to $22.9 million from $20.5 million in the 2013 quarter, but net income inched up to $816,000 from $810,000.
AT&T delays fiber optic plans pending net neutrality debate

AT&T plans to delay its ambitious fiber optic cable investments in 100 cities until U.S. regulators define the rules for net neutrality. "We can't go out and invest that kind of money deploying fiber to 100 cities not knowing under what rules those investments will be governed," AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson told investors at a conference Wednesday morning, according to Reuters .

It's a big day for Microsoft and its (soon to be even larger) cadre of dedicated developers: Starting today, Microsoft is making the core parts of its .Net framework open-source, and cross-platform on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. Microsoft is also committing to adding Android and iOS support in the upcoming Visual Studio 2015. This is a bold move that will attempt to cement .Net, C#, and Visual Studio as the dominant development platform across Windows, Linux, Android, iOS, and Mac -- and, well, it might just work.
