Using Enhanced Load-Pull Measurements For Base Station Power Amplifier Designs

2016-05-23 11:23:18| rfglobalnet Home Page

The concept of load-pull simulation is where a load or source impedance is swept by an active device and its performance is measured. Recently, advancements have been made to data file formats by load-pull measurement system vendors to expand the usefulness of load-pull characterization. These new file formats support a sweep of an independent variable such as input power, DC bias, temperature, or tone spacing, in addition to the swept source or load impedances. The NI AWR Design Environment™ software enables designers to import and manipulate these load pull data sets in a circuit simulator which greatly simplifies and speeds the design process, and gives them a broader design space to explore. This white paper covers in-depth information on how to use enhanced load-pull measurements for base station power amplifier designs.

Five Hints For Successful Measurements In Noise

2016-05-13 16:25:05| rfglobalnet Downloads

Noise is described as the random disturbances of useful information between a transmitter and receiver. This electronic characteristic typically limits the overall performance of any wireless system, and impacts a spectrum analyzer’s ability to measure very low amplitude signals while maintaining high accuracy and fast sweep speed. This application note presents five tips on improving the measurement sensitivity and accuracy for small signals.

Making Differential Measurements With Copper Mountain Technologies VNAs

2016-05-09 17:56:44| rfglobalnet Downloads

Balanced electrical circuits are designed with at least three ports, or more commonly four ports, as is standard for a simple differential transmission line. Many engineers prefer to perform differential measurements with 4-port instruments when characterizing electrical properties such as insertion loss and return loss, and S-parameters such as transmission and the reflection of single-ended, common-mode, and differential-mode signals. This application note gives a brief introduction on balanced and differential circuits and provides a demonstration of such measurements on a common-mode filter through the use of split-ring resonators.
