Burson Group, is planning a big jump in private label brands for the auto parts industry to rival Coles and Woolies in supermarkets. Home brand spare parts are increasingly making their way into Australian vehicles undergoing repairs and servicing in the $14 billion industry, with big player Burson Group, set to substantially bump up the levels of private label brands to beyond where the supermarket retailers have taken it in their stores.

Coca-Cola Amatil set on stabilising earnings despite Woolworths, Coles price war

Coca-Cola Amatil CEO Alison Watkins: "Our business has quite a lot of seasonal variation, our profitability is very much weighted towards the warmer months..." Coca-Cola Amatil chief executive Alison Watkins is intent on steadying earnings this year even though increasing price competition in supermarkets has made it harder to lift soft drink and bottled water prices. In a break from tradition, Coca-Cola Amatil did not issue a trading update at its annual meeting in Sydney on Tuesday, but Ms Watkins said she was comfortable with profit targets unveiled late last year and was confident that earnings per share would stabilise in 2015 before returning to mid-single digit growth over the next few years.

Coles, Bunnings and Kmart fuel retail sales growth at Wesfarmers

Perth-based conglomerate Wesfarmers continues to take market share from arch-rival Woolworths, lifting retail sales by a higher-than-expected 3.3 per cent to $13.12 billion in the three months ended March as strong sales growth at Bunnings, Kmart, Coles and Officeworks offset weakness in liquor stores, petrol stations and Target. Wesfarmers managing director Richard Goyder described the retail sales growth, which exceeded market forecasts of 2.5 per cent, as pleasing.
