Telecom Italia revenues down 6.6% in Q4, misses profit target and launches 2020-22 business plan

(Telecompaper) Telecom Italia (TIM) posted a 6.6 percent year-on-year decline in revenues to EUR 4.0 billion in the fourth quarter, with improved results at its TIM Brasil unit offset by a fall of EUR 291 million (-7.6% year on year) at its domestic unit. TIM's EBITDA for the quarter came to EUR 1.7 billion, down 1.6 percent compared to Q4 2018 on an organic basis, with a domestic decline of 12.8 percent largely offset by a strong performance in Brazil, where it's teaming up with Telefonica to bid for Brazilian operator Oi's mobile business.

SK Telecom, Singtel, AIS create gaming joint venture

(Telecompaper) South Korean operator SK Telecom, together with Singapore's Singtel and Thailand's AIS, have announced a Series A investment in a regional gaming joint venture. Via this move, the three partners plan to reinforce their presence in the sector and develop new gaming-related revenue streams. The joint venture will partner with international game developers, and leverage the partners' Korean and Southeast Asian gaming and entertainment content offering, targeting the 800 million gamers in the region.

Telecom Italia inks deal to add Disney+ to TIMvision

(Telecompaper) Telecom Italia has announced a multi-year agreement with Disney to carry the US company's new Disney+ SVOD service on its TIMvision platform, confirming earlier reports. TIM said it will be the exclusive wholesale distributor of Disney+ in Italy through TIMvision and will bundle it with a range of fibre-based packages when the streaming platform launches on 24 March.

Telecom Italia agrees to take on KKR as partner to roll out national fibre network

(Telecompaper) Telecom Italia (TIM) has selected US private equity firm KKR as an "exclusive partner" to help it roll out fibre-optic networks throughout Italy, confirming earlier reports. In a statement, the operator said its board had taken positive note of a non-binding proposal by KKR following a meeting to discuss the merger of its fibre-optic assets with those of wholesale rival Open Fiber.

Cellnex and Bouygues Telecom form 51:49 JV in France to invest in fibre connectivity

(Telecompaper) Cellnex and Bouygues Telecom have agreed to create a joint venture that will deploy and operate a fibre network connecting infrastructure equipment across France. Bouygues Telecom will own 49 percent of the new company, with Cellnex holding 51 percent and 100 percent of economic rights. The JV will invest EUR 1 billion by 2027 to roll out up to 31,500 km of fibre linking infrastructure sites including mobile masts, central offices and edge computing centres.
