(Telecompaper) German operator QSC has confirmed it's looking at various options for its DSL network, including a possible sale. The relevant talks concerning the various options are at a very early stage, the company said in a statement. The announcement follows a report that United Internet is interested in buying QSC. Telstra confirms talks to buy Pacnet

2014-12-17 14:43:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Telstra has confirmed its in talks to acquire Asian operator Pacent. The Australian operator made an announcement to the stock market following a report by Bloomberg that the two companies were close to an agreement. Pacnet's owners were seeking a valuation of about USD 1 billion including debt, people with knowledge of the sale process said in June. Telstra has been seeking new acquisitions in growth areas after divesting a number of assets in the past year. Buying Pacnet would give Telstra more than 46,000 kilometers of submarine cable from Asia to the US as well as a network of expanding data centres across east Asia. The stable cash flow from the assets could help offset the loss of fixed network operations sold to the Australian government as part of its NBN project.

Samsung in talks with LoopPay on m-payments - report

2014-12-17 08:43:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Samsung has discussed a deal with a payments start-up that would help the smartphone maker introduce a mobile payments system in 2015 to rival Apple, multiple sources told Re/code. The technology would allow people with certain Samsung phones to pay in stores by waving their phones instead of swiping with a credit card or cash. It was not yet clear if Samsung had reached a deal with the start-up, US-based LoopPay. One source said the deal could still fall apart. A prototype of the payments system working on a Samsung phone has been created, the other source said. A Samsung spokesman and LoopPay CEO Will Graylin declined to comment.
