(Telecompaper) Shaw Communications has agreed to sell its Shaw Media operations to Corus Entertainment for CAD 2.65 billion in cash and shares. At completion, Shaw will own 39 percent of Corus. The deal will bring Shaw net proceeds of around CAD 1.8 billion, money which will be used to fund the previously announced acquisition of Wind Mobile for CAD 1.6 billion. This transaction is expected to close in the third quarter.

Shaw Communications is selling its media division to Corus Entertainment for $2.65 billion, a deal that will help fund the telecom company's purchase of Wind Mobile. Shaw Media includes the Global Television network and 19 specialty channels including HGTV Canada, Food Network Canada and Showcase, formerly part of the Canwest business group before it was split up.
