Sandberg transfers USD 31 mln in FB shares to charity

(Telecompaper) Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg has set aside USD 31 million in the company's stock for her charity fund, Re/code reports, citing an SEC filing. The document shows that Sandberg transferred 290,000 shares to the Sheryl Sandberg Philanthropy Fund on 20 November, a day on which the shares closed at USD 107. The donor-advised fund allows givers to take tax breaks and to earn profit with no capital gains tax. Sandberg is expected to promote gender equality programmes.
Equinix closes USD 3.8 bln Telecity acquisition

(Telecompaper) US data centre operator Equinix has completed the acquisition of UK-based Telecity for USD 3.8 billion, consolidating its position as the largest retail colocation provider in Europe. Originally announced in May as a recommended cash and share offer, the transaction was approved last week by Telecity shareholders and UK regulators, having obtained the European Commission's green light in November. As part of the deal, Telecity chairman John Hughes will be joining the board of directors of Equinix, and Equinix EMEA president Eric Schwartz will serve as the head of the combined regional business in EMEA.

Softbank to boost India investments to USD 10 bln

(Telecompaper) Japan's SoftBank plans to increase its investment in India up to USD 10 billion in the coming year. The company has invested over USD 2 billion in Indian firms over the past year, The Times of India reports, citing SoftBank chairman Masayoshi Son. Son said that the internet and solar sectors are of most interest to him. "We are very happy with the portfolio we have. We will continue to look for new opportunities. Internet and solar are the sectors that excite me", Son said.

AT&T introduces unlimited wireless data deal for USD 100

(Telecompaper) AT&T has introduced a new unlimited wireless data offer. From 12 January, new and existing AT&T consumer wireless customers with a smartphone who have or add AT&T DirecTV or AT&T U-Verse TV will be able to sign up to the new AT&T Unlimited Plan, getting unlimited data, talk and text for USD 100 per month. Additional smartphones cost USD 40 per month each, and a fourth smartphone can be added at no additional cost. Tablets connected to the plan will cost an additional USD 40, or USD for 1GB, while watches will cost an additional USD 10.
