Crown Castle confirms USD 7.1 billion takeover of Lightower

(Telecompaper) US towers operator Crown Castle confirmed the acquisition of fibre network operator Lightower for USD 7.1 billion. The price agreed with Lightower's owners Berkshire Partners, Pamlico Capital and other investors is worth around 13.5x the expected adjusted EBITDA contribution from Lightower in the first year of ownership. Lightower owns or has rights to 32,000 route miles of fibre in the Northeast US, including major metro areas such as Boston, New York and Philadelphia. The acquisition adds to a string of takeovers by Crown Castle in recent months to boost its backhaul network and will give the company a total 60,000 route miles of fibre at closing.

Cincinnati Bell buys Hawaiian Telcom, OnX for USD 650 mln

(Telecompaper) Cincinnati Bell has bought Hawaiian Telcom and OnX Enterprise Solutions for a total of USD 650 million, giving a boost to its scale and service offerings. Under the agreement with Hawaiian, Hawaiian Telcom shareholders will be able to either get USD 30.75 in cash, 1.6305 Cincinnati shares, or a mix of USD 18.45 in cash and 0.6522 shares of Cincinnati Bell for each share of Hawaiian Telcom. Cincinnati will pay USD 201 million for OnX Enterprise Solutions, in cash.

Atlantic Broadband buys MetroCast cable ops for USD 1.4 bln

(Telecompaper) Cogeco Communications said that its Atlantic Broadband unit has agreed to buy all of MetroCast's brand name cable systems from Harron Communications for USD 1.4 billion. Cogeco said the deal will help the company expand in North America and further into the US cable market. Under the agreement, the Caisse de depot et placement du Quebec will invest USD 315 million for a 21 percent stake in Atlantic Broadband's holding company. The rest of the purchase price will be financed by secured debt financing from two banks.

NCC says Etisalat and banks resolve USD 1.2 bln debt issues

Alibaba invests USD 1 bln to raise stake in Lazada

(Telecompaper) Alibaba Group is investing another USD 1 billion in the southeast Asia e-commerce platform Lazada in order to increase its stake to 83 percent from 51 percent. The deal gives Lazada valuation of USD 3.15 billion, much higher than when Alibaba first bought its controlling stake for USD 1 billion in April 2016. Alibaba is acquiring the additional shares in the company from existing Lazada shareholders.
