Verizon bids USD 3 bln for Yahoo core assets - report

(Telecompaper) Verizon will submit a second-round bid of USD 3 billion for Yahoo's core internet business, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources familiar with the matter. The deadline closed on 6 June. Yahoo is expected to hold at least one more cycle of bidding, and the offers could change by the final round, the sources said. Both Verizon and Yahoo declined to comment.
Baidu ups bank loan to USD 2 bln - report

(Telecompaper) Baidu has upped the size of its USD 1 billion five-year loan to USD 2 billion, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The company received commitments from 21 banks for the facility, the sources said. Baidu announced the USD 1 billion loan in April, saying it would put the money to general corporate purposes. No comment was immediately available.
Softbank to sell USD 7.9 bln in Alibaba shares

(Telecompaper) Japan's SoftBank said it will be selling USD 7.9 billion worth of shares in Alibaba in order to up its own liquidity and pay back debt. The transactions will include the sale of USD 2.0 billion worth of shares to Alibaba, USD 400 million worth of shares to members of the Alibaba Partnership acting collectively and USD 500 of shares to a private equity group, plus another USD 5.0 billion worth, to be offered by a newly formed trust in the form of American depositary shares (ADSs) in a private placement to institutional buyers. There will, in addition, probably be a greenshoe of USD 1.0 billon more worth of shares.
SES to buy rest of O3b Networks for USD 710 million

(Telecompaper) SES announced it will exercise its option to buy the rest of O3b Networks. Earlier this month it agreed to take a controlling stake in O3b of just over 50 percent and took an option to buy the rest of the company. SES said it will now use the call option to buy the 49.5 percent of O3b shares for USD 710 million. As a result, O3b will no longer consider an IPO. The deal remains subject to regulatory approval, expected in the second half of this year.
Peru raises USD 911 million in 700 MHz tender

(Telecompaper) Peru's private investment promotion agency ProInversion has announced that Movistar (Telefonica), Claro (America Movil) and Entel secured spectrum in the 700 MHz band for 4G-LTE services in a long-delayed auction finally held on 26 May. The state ended up collecting USD 911.2 million for the three 15 + 15 MHz blocks made available, above the reserve price of USD 854.1 million that had drawn criticism for being too high. Block A went to Entel for USD 290 million, block B to Claro for USD 306 million and block C to Movistar for USD 315 million, said ProInversion, adding that the licences are for a period of 20 years and can be renewed. The newly released spectrum will be used to complement existing 4G LTE services offered by Movistar, Claro, Entel and Bitel using the AWS band, with the successful bidders each committing to bringing 4G services to at least 190 localities over five years as well as guaranteeing download speeds of at least 1 Mbps.
