Volkswagen may have to set aside more than the 6.5 billion euros it has so far allocated to cover the costs of an emissions scandal if car sales suffer, its chief executive said on Wednesday. "The 6.5 billion applies to the recall," Matthias Mueller told reporters after a tour of VW's headquarters in the German town of Wolfsburg.

That's what Volkswagen dealers say about the brand's U.S. sales momentum as its diesel emissions scandal enters its second month. The inability to sell diesel vehicles because of the stop-sale order is taking a toll, but dealers say they have yet to see an exodus of customers from their showrooms as heavy dealer and customer incentives provide a floor under sales.
