A climate skeptic calls for a carbon tax
2016-03-25 13:56:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Daily Climate: I am not deeply worried about man-made climate change. But I am appalled at all the absolutely stupid, counter-productive things our government has implemented in the name of climate change. The net effect is a costly distortion of the economy with extremely little effect on man-made greenhouse gas production. For example: Corn ethanol mandates and subsidies, which study after study have shown to have zero net effect on CO2 emissions. Even Koch Industries, one of the largest beneficiaries...

Tropical species are especially vulnerable to climate change
2016-03-25 13:48:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
PhysOrg: Changes in temperature and weather patterns pose a serious threat to the millions of animal, plant and fungi species found in the tropics. In an article published in Science, lead authors and biology Ph.D. students Timothy Perez and James Stroud explain how species found in environments such as the tropics have lower tolerances to climate change. With greater amounts of thermally sensitive species than environments found at higher latitudes, the threat of global climate change puts tropical species...

New climate services program in Rwanda aims reach one million farmers
2016-03-25 06:54:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
PhysOrg: Agriculture contributes to one-third of Rwanda's gross domestic production and remains the main source of subsistence for the majority of the country's population. Farming employs eight out of ten Rwandans. Despite its importance, the sector remains highly vulnerable to current and projected climate and weather variability. Severe flooding in 2007, for example, caused an estimated US$22 million in two districts alone. Recurrent hail and wind storms, heavy rains and prolonged droughts take frequent...

Climate change: India says poor nations suffer the most, need time and space to fix deficit
2016-03-25 01:57:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
First Post: Asserting that the burden of sustainability cannot be put on the shoulders of the poor, India has said that poorer nations must be given space to address their "development deficit" as they end up suffering the worst impacts of climate change while contributing the least to it. Amit Narang, counsellor in the permanent mission of India to the United Nations, said the international community cannot address climate change if it fails to address the "unsustainable consumption and lifestyles, particularly...
