Reuters: Award-winning American environmental photographer Gary Braasch died on Monday while snorkeling at the northern end of the Great Barrier Reef. Braasch, 70, from Portland, Oregon, was snorkeling with a companion at the Australian Museum's Lizard Island Research Station, the museum said in a statement. He was documenting the effect of climate change on the reef. The cause of death was not immediately clear. Queensland police had been notified and were investigating, the museum added. A Nikon...

Pakistan's biggest threat isn't terrorism, it's climate change
2016-03-07 00:23:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Gulf News: For decades, Pakistan has struggled to manage urgent crises, ranging from infrastructure woes to terrorism. While its policies focus on short-term conventional threats, a potentially devastating danger lurks in the shadows: Climate change. As the impact of global warming continues to grow, the political and economic instability it brings will threaten Pakistans security. There was an implicit...

Herald: It appears world leaders and former prime minister Kevin Rudd have rather short memories as they race to heap praise on Leonardo DiCaprio following his plea for action to save the environment during his Oscars acceptance speech on Monday. On Tuesday, Rudd called DiCaprio the "real deal on climate change" after the actor appealed to his Hollywood peers and millions of viewers around the world, saying: "Climate change is real, it is happening right now. "It is the most urgent threat facing our...

First ministers' climate change meeting a dud: Walkom
2016-03-06 00:27:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Toronto Star: In practical terms, the first ministers meeting on climate change was a dud. Canada is still not on the road to reach the carbon reduction targets called for by last years Paris climate summit. It is not even on the road to meet the far less ambitious targets set out by Canadas former Conservative government. When all of the rhetoric is stripped away, Thursdays Vancouver Declaration, the somewhat grandiose document summing up the one-day session, demonstrates only that any fault lines...
