Climate Change Could Kill Half a Million Annually by 2050
2016-03-03 15:07:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
EcoWatch: The impacts of climate change on the global food supply could lead to more than 500,000 deaths a year by 2050, according to a new study in the Lancet. Droughts, floods and other climate-related impacts will hurt crop yields and reduce the amounts of fruits and vegetables available. On average, the consumption of fruits and vegetables will drop 4 percent by 2050, leading to an increase in malnutrition and disease, particularly in less developed countries. Without climate change, the study found...

Reuters: The fledgling Green Climate Fund, which aims to become a major channel for finance to tackle climate change in poorer nations, will need more staff if it is to meet a goal of allocating $2.5 billion this year for clean energy and adaptation projects, its executive director said. The higher number would triple the size of the fund's secretariat....
Climate deniers lose key talking point as satellites show temperatures hit all-time highs
2016-03-03 15:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Mashable: February was the warmest month in the satellite record of atmospheric temperatures, according to new data. This is just the first domino to fall during what will likely prove to be the warmest, or one of the warmest, months on record as more data trickles in on conditions during February. The satellite data deals a setback to climate deniers that frequently cite the satellite record of atmospheric temperatures as evidence that human-caused global warming either doesn't exist or is far smaller...
Climate impact predicted to cause 500,000 extra deaths in 2050
2016-03-03 14:07:47| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Reuters: Climate change could cause significant changes to global diets, leading to more than half a million extra deaths in 2050 from illnesses such as stroke, cancer and heart disease, experts said on Wednesday. As extreme weather such as floods and heat waves wreaks havoc with harvests and crop yields, estimated increases in food availability could be cut by a third by 2050, according to the experts' study published in The Lancet medical journal. This would lead to a reduction of 99 calories available...
