The bill for climate change is coming due

Reuters: Americans have just endured one of the coldest winters in memory, so global warming may not be on their radar. But a new U.N. panel report has just refocused the public debate on a problem some scientists call the greatest threat facing the world. There is trouble ahead for global agriculture, warns the influential Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, if measures are not taken quickly to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The panel, which synthesizes the findings of thousands of peer-reviewed...
Climate Change Confusion Over Extreme Weather

Liberty Voice: It has long been argued that the earths temperature has been consistently warming over the past century. Most people have read reports that the cause of this warming is due to the increase of carbon dioxide (CO2), and it is caused by us. But people are also confused about climate change when they are faced with extreme winter weather conditions, as much of the Midwest has been this winter. According to the governments official monthly climate report, 2013-2014 winter weather was one of the coldest...

Climate change is world's 'gravest security threat' - report

RTCC: The failure to act on climate change is the worlds gravest threat to human and national security, according to a new report on war and conflict. A collective failure by world leaders to treat climate change as a security threat is at odds with frequent warnings by military experts that violence could escalate as a result of ever scarcer resources, according to the Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF), a UK-based NGO. In the report, entitled The Gathering Storm: climate change, security...

Climate change makes salamanders shrink, scientists say
2014-03-27 00:05:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Christian Science Monitor: Apparently now you can measure climate change in terms of salamander size. A warmer and drier climate is causing wild Appalachian salamanders to shrink, according to a new paper titled "Widespread rapid reductions in body size of adult salamanders in response to climate change" published March 25 in the journal Global Change Biology. It all started in 1980s, when University of Maryland herpetologist Richard Highton noticed a decrease in the population of salamanders within the Appalachian Mountains....

How climate change will acidify the oceans
2014-03-27 00:03:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
BBC: Off the remote eastern tip of Papua New Guinea a natural phenomenon offers an alarming glimpse into the future of the oceans, as increasing concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere make sea water more acidic. Streams of volcanic CO2 bubbles emerge from deep under the seabed here, like a giant jacuzzi. As the bubbles of carbon dioxide dissolve into the water, carbonic acid is formed. The site hints at the possible fate of the world's seas as 24 million tonnes of CO2 from industrial society...
