BIO applauds bipartisan renewable chemical legislation.

BIO expresses thanks to Representatives Bill Pascrell (D-NJ), Mike Fitzpatrick (R-PA), and Richard Neal (D-MA) for introducing H.R. 3390, which provides renewable chemical producers access to production or investment tax credits currently available to other renewable energy producers. According to BIO's Brent Erickson, by creating level playing field in tax policy, U.S. industrial biotech companies can innovate and develop new renewable chemicals for production of bio-based products.

NEMA Lauds Congressional Actions to advance energy legislation.

NEMA President and CEO Kevin J. Cosgriff praised passage, by 18-4 vote, of Energy Policy Modernization Act of 2015 by Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee as "a welcome and positive step." This legislation incorporates NEMA-supported provisions within portions of S 720, Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act of 2015. Also, NEMA welcomed Senate Finance Committee's July 21 action advancing legislation to renew and extend 52 tax incentives that expired at end of 2014.

BIO thanked Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), and other committee members for marking up legislation to extend critical tax incentives. Legislation would extend for 2 years the important Research & Development Tax Credit, Second Generation Biofuel Producer Tax Credit, Special Depreciation Allowance for Second Generation Biofuel Plant Property, and Controlled Foreign Corporation Look-Through Rule.
