St. Pauls wants study of sewage options

The St. Pauls Board of Commissioners voted Thursday to apply for a grant to study the feasibility of Lumberton treating the town's sewage, although some commissioners have reservations about giving up control of the sewer system. St. Pauls Administrator J.R. Steigerwald said Lumberton requested that the town sign-on to the effort to secure a state Department of Environmental Quality grant to study the feasibility of a regional sewer treatment.

United Parcel Service Inc. said it is considering whether to appeal a $5.3 million award given Thursday by a Lexington, Kentucky, jury to eight black men who had charged the Atlanta-based firm with a hostile work environment. According to media reports, the Fayette County Circuit Court jury also found UPS had discriminated against one of the eight, and that the company had retaliated against two men after they complained.
