More Than 1,700 FairPoint Workers Go On Strike

FairPoint Communications is assuring telephone and Internet customers that the company has plans in place to deal with the strike by more than 1,700 workers in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Company spokeswoman Angelynne Amores Beaudry also says this morning the company remains willing to listen to any union proposal that "meaningfully addresses the core issues of these negotiations."

Fuller Oil Sues FairPoint Over Phone Outage

A New Hampshire home heating oil company that faced customer delivery delays earlier this year has sued FairPoint Communications over a phone outage that happened at the same time. Fred Fuller Oil said a combination of extreme weather conditions, a huge increase in oil and propane demand and an overload and temporary crash of the company phone system led to problems during the winter.

Leaders of two unions representing more than 1,700 FairPoint Communications workers in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont say they're going after the CEO, board members and corporate owners for refusing to negotiate. The Communication Workers of America and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers vowed to take their demonstrations "to a new level" by targeting the CEO, board members and corporate owners where they live and work.
