FairPoint chief says union is strike-end obstacle

The chief executive officer of FairPoint Communications is telling Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin the union is responsible for the continued strike of its workers across northern New England. In a Wednesday letter, FairPoint CEO Paul Sunu says his company has always been willing to negotiate with the unions that represent more than 1,700 workers across the three states.

A top Vermont telecom regulator says the state's dominant landline phone company continues to be plagued by outages. But Jim Porter of the Vermont Department of Public Service says numbers of phone outages on the FairPoint Communications system are not tracked as closely as those seen by electric utilities.

"We don't have buyer's remorse," David Tucker, director of Vermont's statewide 911 system, said in an interview this past week.

FairPoint customers eligible for bill credits

In light of recent increases in service interruptions, the Maine Office of the Public Advocate is alerting customers of FairPoint Communications that they are eligible for bill credits for their time without telephone service. Recent weather issues have left many Maine residential and business customers of FairPoint Communications without telephone service, according to a news release from the office of the Public Advocate.
