Chemical and oil company BASF is warning that its profits will come in below its previous forecast in the wake of slower global economic growth and industrial production. Shares in BASF SE dropped 2.4 percent to 69.34 euros in Frankfurt trading Friday after the company revised its forecast.

The oceans absorb about a third of the CO2 that's being produced by industrial society, and this is changing the chemistry of seawater. Christian Clausen , president of the European Banking Federation, said regulators need to rethink an approach he warned will bury the industry under a mountain of rules with little coherence. Clausen, who is also the chief executive officer of Nordea Bank AB , said his group plans to take up the issue with the new European Commission and parliament in an effort to prevent regulators adding more rules to the existing framework.
