IBM Dons Red Hat for Cloudy Future

IBM's deal to acquire Red Hat caught everyone by surprise when it was announced less than two weeks ago. While concerns spread quickly about what it would mean for the largest enterprise Linux platform, IBM and Red Hat executives assured employees and customers that Red Hat would continue to operate independently -- at least for now. Intel made a similar acquisition of Wind River in 2009.

IBM buys Red Hat for USD 34 bln

(Telecompaper) Open source software provider Red Hat has accepted a takeover bid from IBM worth about USD 34 billion in cash, or USD 190.0 per share. IBM CEO Ginni Rometty called the deal a "game-changer," transforming the company into the world's number one hybrid cloud provider. Rommetty said that with Red Hat, IBM will be able to provide a full value open cloud service to help companies continue their move to the a hybrid multi-cloud, with expertise in key technologies such as Linux, containers, Kubernetes, multi-cloud and cloud management, and automation. IBM has been working with Red Hat for 20 years.

Red Hat Adds Zing to High-Density Storage

Red Hat has announced the addition of high-density storage capabilities to its in-memory data management technology. The company has expanded an alliance with Azul Systems to build on their prior collaboration to provide entitlements for Azul Zing with JBoss Data Grid subscriptions. The arrangement will help customers meet speed and volume needs for their big data environments.
