Paper in OSA Research Jounal shows light slows in twists.
2016-03-30 14:31:08| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today
In Optical Society's (OSA) research journal, Optica, researchers at University of Ottawa report that twisted light pulses in vacuum travel up to 0.1% slower than speed of light. Research team leader Ebrahim Karimi noted that this fact is of importance to anyone intent on using twisted light for quantum communication. According to Karimi and fellow paper author Frederic Bouchard, twisted light holds great potential for encoding in quantum communication and quantum computers.

New research shows La Nia is not helping Hawai'i's rainfall, groundwater
2015-11-15 20:01:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
ScienceDaily: Historically when El Nio events occur, Hawai'i has experienced nearly six months of drought, from November to April. Conversely, during La Nia events rainfall has been greater than normal -- building up Hawai'i's groundwater supply. New research published this month in the Journal of Climate by scientists at the University of Hawai'i -- Manoa, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, and NOAA's Honolulu National Weather Service (NWS) Office, determined that the relationship between...

New research shows just how much better recycled paper for forests
2015-10-14 16:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Mongabay: The analysis revealed that the recycled paper had less than one percent of the greenhouse gas emissions responsible for climate change and ocean acidification as the virgin paper, while using one-fourth of the water. The harvesting of the wood fed into just one of the virgin paper mills disturbed the habitat for 115 different endangered species. Virgin paper makers are attempting to rebrand their product as just as climate-friendly as recycled paper, while better suited to fine printing...
