According to IPC’s World PCB Production Report for the Year 2014, world market for PCBs reached an estimated $60.2 billion in value in 2014, growing just 0.7% in real terms. Production growth in China, Thailand, and Vietnam compensated for declining PCB production in most other regions. Report contains estimates of 2014 PCB production value by 9 product categories and by 30 countries or sub-regions. Four categories of rigid PCBs, 3 categories of flexible circuits, and IC substrates are covered.

IPC Hand Soldering Competition will appear at productronica 2015.

In cooperation with productronica 2015, IPC will present Hand Soldering Competition in Hall A2 at stand 405. Competitors will demonstrate soldering skills from November 10–13 in competition for 1st place (€300), 2nd place (€200), and 3rd place (€100) prizes as well as their spot at IPC Hand Soldering World Championship at IPC APEX EXPO® in Las Vegas, NV (March 15–17, 2016). Each participant will be tasked with building functional electronics assembly within 60 min time limit.

IPC releases specification for rigid printed boards.

IPC has released IPC-6012D, Qualification and Performance Specification for Rigid Printed Boards. Revision D includes updated requirements for dielectric removal, HASL solder pots, printed board edges, and markings and solder mask coverage. Most anticipated addition is new microvia requirements for both capture and target lands. Annular ring, plating to land separation, and voiding in plated and copper filled structures are some examples where revision addresses microvia structures.
