Fire in International Paper woodyard quickly controlled

Firefighters were called to International Paper's Georgetown mill the evening of Tuesday, Dec. 16, after a fire broke out in the woodyard. According to Georgetown County Fire/EMS Assistant Chief Tony Hucks, the department was called to aid the International Paper on-site fire department at about 6:15 p.m. He said the wood chip pile underground caught fire, and the plant's on-site firefighters had the fire well contained when the county crews got on the scene.
