Job Description We are looking for an ECLS Engineer to support our client ESTEC in the Life support and Physical Sciences Instrumentation section. The main focus of the team is sustainable life support technologies, In Situ Resource Utilisation and small payload development for manned and unmanned spaceflight. Your tasks will include Implement and supervise RD activities in the field of sustainable life support technologies e.g. MELiSSA, with a specific focus on bioreactors, biochemical processes characterisation, modelling and development Supervise the development of technology demonstrators on board ISS and follow up of operations over its life cycle Implement and supervise RD activities in the area of In Situ Resource Utilisation Provide project support for manned spaceflight and scientific experiments onboard the ISS Provide support to the management of the MELiSSA project, technical and scientific coordination with MELiSSA partners Required Skills and Experience Minimum of 3 years relevant experience PhD or Master in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology applied Microbiology or Physics Experience in specification, engineering and analysis of chemical and biochemical processes, knowledge of plantfood production Project skills, Management of RD contracts, academic and industrial experience Good interpersonal communication skills, team oriented. Key Tasks and Responsibilities As part of the Air Sat team, you will have the following responsibilities Support development and specification of operational concept and FDIR Failure Detection, Isolation and Recovery concept under the lead of the OPS Operation Pro Second system architect Interface with software team Specification of inputs requirements related to the onboard software of the platform payload control Definition of the project specific Packet Utilization Standard PUS and related telecommand and telemetry, in strong coordination with the satellite platform responsible Definition of the command and control structure with detailed definition of used PUS services, subservices and parameters to be used Assembling and coordination of the inputs for instruments Flight Operations Manual FOM and Instrument User Manual UM coming from different contributors Writing of the OPSFDIR related chapters of FOM and UM, describing the operational concept and the failure detection, isolation and recovery of the platform instrument Development and test of related Spacecraft operational procedures SOP and Onboard Control Macro Procedures OBMPs Provision of inputs to data handling and onboard software testdocuments and test specifications. Contribute to internal RD activities for the design, modelling, architectural tradeoff and performance assessment of advanced RF payloads and instruments in the domain of telecommunications emphasis on payloads based on active antennas and earth observation Synthetic Aperture Radars, Altimeters, Scatterometers, Radiometers, Perform technical management of RD activities with industry in the field of advanced payload concepts and subsystemsequipment development, Provide RF payload technical support to projects and programmes, Contribute to the generation and promotion of innovative ideas in the field of RF payloads for telecommunications and earth observation, including the definition of ESA RD programmes, Define technical requirements and statements of work for the tasks of RD activities to be performed by industry, from early conceptual studies to full hardware development, Contribute to the developmentusage of section related laboratory facilities and analysissimulation tools, Maintain stateoftheart expertise by monitoring the space and ground system and technological trends and applying them in the daytoday tasks. Requirements To successfully perform the above mentioned tasks, the following background experience is required PhD or Master degree in Telecommunications, Microwave or RF Electronics Engineering.
