Qualcomm forecasts mixed Q2 after December quarter tops guidance

(Telecompaper) Qualcomm reported better-than-expected earnings for its fiscal first quarter to December, down only 8 percent year-on-year to USD 0.80 per share, compared to guidance for a drop of 30 percent or more. Revenues increased 5 percent to USD 5.1 billion, near the high end of its outlook. The company said it was starting to benefit from the ramp up of the 5G market.

The combined consumer and enterprise worldwide wireless local area network market segments decreased -5.3% year over year in the second quarter of 2015 . According to the preliminary results published in the International Data Corporation Worldwide Quarterly WLAN Tracker , the enterprise segment's growth continued to slow compared to preceding quarters, increasing just 1.4% over the same period last year.

International Business Machines Corp reported a better-than-expected quarterly adjusted profit, helped by increasing demand for its fast-growing cloud business. Net income fell to $5.48 billion, or $5.51 per share, in the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, from $6.19 billion, or $5.73 per share, a year earlier.
