Back in February, a state senator introduced a bill that aimed to replace a statue of Maine's first governor, William King, in the U.S. Congress' National Statuary Hall . Garrett Mason, R-Lisbon, wanted to see Civil War hero Joshua Chamberlain take King's place in the hall, which features statues from two famous people from each of the 50 states.

A Portland man was charged with Class A robbery Wednesday after allegedly attempting to steal clothing from L.L. Bean, assaulting a security guard and resisting arrest by police. Andrew Rupard, 28, of Portland was charged with robbery, refusing to submit to arrest or detention and violating condition of release following the incident, which took place just after 3 p.m. in the retail store, Freeport police Detective Gino Bianchini said.
