Ground Segment System Engineer

JOB LOCATION The position is based in Rome. The availability to make occasional National and International travels is required. Shortstays at our customers premises, based in Italy, may be required only during specific project phases. TASKS The Ground Segment System Engineer shall work on multiple projects and assignments, leading all the internal technical activities with an high degree of autonomy during all the subsystem lifecycle, from the specification up to the operations phase. HeShe shall support proposal preparation and sales activities by leading, preparing and delivering all the required contributions inherent to the job position. The applicant shall be able to Lead development team, in respect to established schedule, costs and performances Perform tradeoff analysis and decide on solutions, techniques and approaches Participate to internal and external meetings and discussions related to relevant issues, participate to and prepare documentation presentation, technical notes, etc for the GS and Subsystems milestones provide all the relevant contribution to upper level reviews. Prepare and maintain the Ground Segment subsystems development plans Define and lead Ground Segment Subsystems test campaigns and validation activities Define and prepare training sessions to internal personnel on GS generic or specific issues in accordance with owned and acquired expertise Coordinate andor directly execute the following tasks define and mantain the GS and Subsystems architecture functional, software and physical, internal and external GS and Subsystems interfaces, and technical performance define GS and Subsystems specification and review upper level requirement allocation and traceability Define the GS and Subsystems hardware specification prepare the documentation of GS and subsystems during all the project phases Coordinate and support the execution of the following tasks Perform tradeoff analysis on COTS selection Implement, configure and maintain part of the GS software execute the GS subsystems software installation and configuration on hardware platforms Define the Ground segment and related subsystems AIV activities including test plans, test procedures Execute AIV activities at GS and subsystems level Perform integration of GS subsystems in the Ground Segment QUALIFICATION The applicant has got a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering or another relevant discipline. The applicant has 5 10 years of professional experience, on Satellite Mission Ground Segment. The following expertise is considered as mandatory extensive knowledge in Satellite Ground Segment engineering, development, integration and testing Knowledge of ECSS with greater focus on E branch, E70 and E40 disciplines Team coordination experience The following expertise is considered as an advantage involvement in nanosatellite projects for ground segments andor open source mission control software knowledge experience on Flight Dynamics systems and Mission control systems for Earth Observation missions Project management experience Knowledge of Linux OS The applicant shall also possess very good analytical skills very good communications and presentation skills very good technical writing generating and delivering skills high level of written and spoken English sufficient level of written and spoken Italian The position can be opportunely tailored to the applicant level of experience job tasks and associated required degree of autonomy will be consequently adjusted. Position Reference 104 You will have the opportunity to provide engineering support to ESA in Fucino, Italy. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Organize the GCSOPS coordination meetings Provide the onsite interface between the Galileo Ground Control Segment GCS Prime and the Operations Team for issues regarding access to GCS infrastructure. Provide the interface and coordinating the ESA GCS Team, ESA PA, GCS Prime and the Operations Team for the management of anomalies and changes in the GCS infrastructure. In particular this includes supporting the onsite Anomaly Review and Change Control Boards. Monitoring the GCS Prime onsite activities with respect to the agreed plans and schedules, and to report on any issues arising from lack of adequate resources. Supporting the review and monitoring of the GCS Prime plans and schedules of onsite activity and ensuring that they are compatible with Operations Team constraints, and constraints arising from the Element Procurement activities. Ensuring that the agreed training tools, courses and materials are made available to the Operations Team at the agreed dates Ensuring that the GCS Prime maintain a proper configuration control system for all onsite data, including ILS data, inventory data, SW installed and segment configuration data. Ensure that an integrated and verified subset of the GCS is successfully and timely handed over to OPS Prime Spaceopal to support each planned SVT and SCTC End to End test. Informing the GCS Technical Manager of any issues that may impact the deployment, verification or validation of any element. Informing the GCS Technical Manager of any issues that may impact the overall segment AIV strategy or planning. Participate in the testing and validation of the various infrastructure elements of the Galileo Ground Control Segment. Acceptance of the deliverables received from industry, ensuring correctness, completeness and compliance to the applicable requirements Participation in research and development activities in the area of mission data systems. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory You have an University degree in a relevant engineering field, astronomy, mathematics or physics You are able to apply their knowledge to develop solutions to technical mathematical and dynamical problems in cooperation with customers and other experts You are able to define, implement, validate and operate software which applies the above solutions using e.g. Unix andor Linux scripting languages, Fortran 77 andor 95, C You are willing to take operational responsibility in multidiscipline teams You are fluent in English, both in speech and writing You have experience in coordinating and interacting with other service providers in operations and other fields You are able to work independently The following skills would be highly desirable You are familiar with the ESOC environment You have experience dealing with external interfaces You are able to multitask efficiently working on multiple activities, multiple subsystems and if applicable multiple missions simultaneously How to Apply Looking to take your career to the next level?
