Inside of the SPO Secondment we offer the following career option Galileo Ground Segment Engineer mfd Reference No. 210111 Your Mission The Spaceopal SPO Ground Segment Engineer is a member of the SPO Evolutions Team reporting to the SPO Evolutions Manager in SPOs Galileo Service Operator GSOp frame of activities. The role requires liaising effectively across all SPO teams and with other GSOp teams, Design Authority teams ESA and Industry and Customer representatives GSA. The main responsibility is to assure harmonized and coordinated Ground Segment Engineering processes and activities spanning over all Galileo ground infrastructure, sites and teams. Processes and activities to be managed and overseen are primarily, but not limited to, the following Managing the operations preparation and operational validation of new infrastructure deployments and related operational scenarios and products ensuring these can be declared fit for providing services Promoting and followingup engineering specifications and developments for ground infrastructure and service evolutions as originated directly from SPO or from GSOp partners Coordinating GSOp teams support and synergies during SystemService verification qualification campaigns as led by the Design Authority andor final Customer. The above shall be ensured for the entire Ground Segment, but with specific focus on both the UNCLA and CLA Galileo Control Services domains. Your responsabilities Oversee key ground infrastructure issues and configuration changes, promoting the related information transfer and awareness across all GSOp teams, up to the followon fix or change validation and related implementation into service. In the context of a Galileo Ground Infrastructure Release cycle, mainly pertaining to the UNCLA and CLA control services domains Coordinate the GSOp support to ground HWSW infrastructure SegmentElement Design, Development and Verification and Qualification milestone reviews and campaigns prior to and as these reach deployment to Galileo sites Contribute to operational products development and validation planning for System and Service operations spanning across more sites and entities Monitor and steer the development and operational readiness of procedures and processes Act as lead technical interface towards the Customer and other stakeholders in the preparation and chairing of the related GSOp milestone reviews Manage the development and maintenance of the associated SPO deliverables Account on the readiness for service provision of the infrastructure releases In the context of SystemService Evolutions, manage the engineering specifications, monitor the followon development, lead the formal iterations with Customer and Design Authority for detailed Service Improvement Proposals by SPO or other GSOp partners operational and service teams, primarily in the UNCLA and CLA control services domains Monitor closely and coordinate planning and support to System and Segment onsite IV campaigns UNCLA and CLA ensuring adequate monitoring and contribution by GSOp teams to the related outcomes for the benefit of Service provision Coordinate closely within the SPO Evolution team and with other SPO teams e.g. Services, ILS, Security while liaising in strict cooperation also with other GSOp partners as required Develop technical notes, plans and other documentation as required plus regular reports on status of activities Occasionally contribute, as and when required to SPO technical proposal preparation processes liaising with SPO legal and contracts to the execution of other ongoing SPO contracts beyond the scope of GSOp Your Qualification Hold a degree in TelecommunicationsElectronicsInformatics Engineering or Physics with at least 5 years of work experience. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic and rapidly growing company seeking to make a positive contribution to the growing problem of orbital debris that endangers mankinds continued use of space as an asset. Whilst the candidate will primarily work in the UK, they will interact extensively with a larger team in Astroscales Japan Office and may be required to travel to Tokyo as needed in support of Astroscale projects and operations. Responsibilities Design, develop, validate and maintain Ground Segment SW subsystems needed for operating Astroscale missions. Also, to develop small tools required for operating of the missions. Generate and update the SW related documentation. Participate in the design of the systems including Requirements capture, definition, tailoring, analysis and conversion to use cases and stories. Development support and solution testing. Participate and or support the Ground Segment verification, validation and integration. Support in the Mission System Test and or Simulation campaigns. Support the Operations team to resolve technical issues and providing advice on best practice. Essential Skills University degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, or other relevant engineering discipline. Minimum 3 years of industry experience in software development and software engineering. Minimum 3 years of industry experience in the design and development of satellite user or ground segment products and technologies. Knowledge of CC, Java and or Python programming languages. Overall knowledge of the main components of a ground segment and how they interact between them. Work in a team as well as independently. Knowledge in project life cycle and acceptance procedures. Knowledge of ECSS standards. Desired Skills 5 years of industry experience in software development and software engineering. 5 years of industry experience in the design and development of satellite user or ground segment products and technologies. Experience or knowledge of Scrum as being part of development team or Product Owner. Tasks Responsibilities In the System Support Division, the postholder will report functionally to the Arctic Weather Satellite AWS Project Manager, and will be responsible for all aspects of the AWS Ground Segment. The postholder will coordinate with the System Support Division to ensure usage of common standards and methods, and access to the necessary resources on system support issues, where appropriate. AWS is conceived as the prototype satellite approx. 120 kg for a future constellation of small satellites providing allweather microwave sounding of the global atmosphere with frequent revisit observations over the Arctic region. The AWS prototype is being implemented as a dedicated ESA Programme Element under the Earth Watch Programme, while any future constellation will be implemented in cooperation with EUMETSAT. Launch of AWS is planned in early 2024. The postholder will support the definition and monitor the implementation of the Ground Segment and the preparation of the Spacecraft inorbit Operations up to and including the commissioning phase. The Ground Segment consists of three elements, namely the Ground Station GS, Monitoring and Control Segment MCS and Payload Data Ground Segment PDGS. The duties will include Reviewing and assessing the proposed Ground Segment design, including identification of possible options, tradeoffs and design cost drivers and guaranteeing compliance with requirements Coordinating with the AWS team to ensure Ground Segment design and compatibility with the systemoperations, including consistency of design, testing and performance with other elements of the system and future AWS constellation requirements Managing and monitoring industrial activities for the Ground Segment Supporting AWS project reviews Reviewing and verifying the spacetoground interface in cooperation with the AWS team Liaising with EUMETSAT with respect to future AWS constellation Ground Segment optimization Monitoring the definition of the Level1data processor and its implementation and the verification of its interfaces with PDGS Supporting Ground Segment validation activities, including Satellite System Validation Tests SSVTs Supporting the preparation of the Launch and Early Orbit Phase LEOP, the Satellite InOrbit Verification SIOV and Commissioning phases In carrying out these tasks, the postholder will coordinate closely with other AWS teammembers, and also with support from the Earth Observation Programmes and Technical and Quality Directorates.
