According to Digital TV Research, global SVOD subscriptions will increase by 519 million between 2019 and 2025 to 1,161 million or up by 81%. The total will climb by 170 million in 2020 alone.

Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX) has released its second-quarter 2019 financial results. Revenue growth was 26% and operating income increased 53% year over year in Q2. International paid memberships were up 2.825 million in the quarter whereas in the U.S. they fell by 126,000.

Third of Netflix subscribers might switch to a cheaper, ad-supported tier

There has been speculation that Netflix will introduce an ad-based tier. According to TDG, a third of Netflix users would consider changing to such a less-expensive option, with more than half of those moderately likely to or definitely would switch.

Netflix adds 8.8 mln subscribers in Q4, amid lower profit and record negative free cash flow

(Telecompaper) Netflix added 8.84 million paid subscribers in the fourth quarter, including 7.31 million outside of the US. The total number of customers now amounts to 139 million. Expenses for original content went to EUR 3.78 billion for the quarter and EUR 13.0 billion for all of 2018. Netflix kept its margin expectations and showed it wants to make its own films just as successful as its own series. Revenues for the quarter rose by 27 percent, but profit fell due to sharply higher spending on marketing, R&D and interest. Cash outflow increased due to increased investments in original content.
