This vacancy note concerns an onsite consulting position at ESOC in Darmstadt, Germany. Flight Dynamics Engineer Test and Validation Attitude Science Missions 2023010 Job Description We are looking for a Flight Dynamics Engineer for our client, ESOC. The primary areas of responsibility will be the Test and Validation for AOCS related processes and products of Science Missions. You may also be requested to assume the responsibility and perform activities for additional services, missions and activities within the scope of general Flight Dynamics operations engineering services. The primary project will be related to JUICE. However, you may also be asked to support the SOLAR ORBITER, BEPICOLOMBO and EUCLID missions. The general activities to be supported are depending on the phase of the mission Test and Validation Execution of and support to operational tasks Validation of operational Flight Dynamics data products, such as command parameter sets, reports, event predictions and acquisition data before delivery to FCT and other users Flight Dynamics Application Layer Maintenance of elements of the Flight Dynamics Application Layer Flight Dynamics System Development Specification of modifications, enhancements and additions to existing software elements Implementation of modifications, enhancements and additions to existing software elements Installation of modifications, enhancements and additions to existing software elements on operational platforms design, coordination and implementation of tests Participation in tests Definition and maintenance of procedures Flight Dynamics SubSystem configuration and definition of Test Validation processes Coordination of interfaces and actitivities across subsystems General Flight Dynamics operations engineering activities Several of these activities are carried out in parallel. Required Skills and Experience University degree in mathematics, physics, a relevant engineering field or astronomy. Analytical approach to technical problems to develop and implement engineering solutions. Thorough understanding of fundamental laws and phenomena in mathematics and physics and the skill to apply this knowledge. Very good skills in linear algebra and calculus. Very good skills in classical mechanics. Experience in computer programming. Will to take operational responsibility in multidiscipline teams. Fluency in English, both in speech and writing. Coordinate and interact with other service providers in operations and other fields. Ability to work independently. Desirable Skills and Experience Experience in programming objectoriented Experience with Linux. Experience in numerical mathematics. Familiarity with Flight Dynamics operations engineering tasks. Summary An exciting opportunity for an experienced Control Engineer to join the Telespazio VEGA UK team, working on site at ESTEC, supporting AOCS development and maintenance. Objective To provide support to the AOCS and Pointing Systems section through definition and implementation of AOCS for Earth Observation, Telecom, Navigation satellites and for Astronomy Observatories, across a number of projects including Sentinel, Earth Care, MTG, Alphasat, Small GEO, Galileo, GAIA, Solar Orbiter. Responsibilities Duties The successful candidate will be expected to Participate in project reviews SRR, PDR CDR. Carry out Attitude and Orbit Control System AOCS design, analyses and simulations control loops design and modelling, FDIR, independent simulator setup, functional verification and performance budgets. Review of AOCS software implementation. Selection and procurement support for sensors and actuators Support AIVAIT test benches, review of test plans and test results. Provide operations support review of Operations Manual, rehearsal and LEOP and inorbit analysis. Conceptualise, initiate and supervise corresponding enabling AOCS technology RD High Accuracy Pointing, Generic AOCS Architecture Building Blocks, Innovative AOCS FDIR Solutions including prototyping and tools development. Develop sensors and inertial actuators technology APS, Star Trackers, sun sensors, Earth sensors, magnetometers, gyros, accelerometers, magnetotorquers, reaction wheels, CMGs. Develop and use the Control Hardware Laboratory e.g. sensor characterisation and testing. Maintain, develop and setup AOCS simulation tools. Participate in the elaboration and promotion of ECSS standards in the E60 domain Qualifications Experience Masters, or equivalent, in Control and Aerospace engineering, or similar related discipline Previous experience in AOCS engineering within European industry Essential Skills AOCS Design, Validation and Testing, as well as AOCS hardware procurement. Exposure to full cycle of AOCS development from PhaseA to Phase E is an asset. HW knowledge sensors, computer, actuators. AOCS AIT at subsystem and system level. Proven knowledge of commercial modelbased design tools MATLAB. Proven experience in the design, tuning, analysis and simulation of AOCS systems in different project phases. HW knowledge sensors, computer, actuators. AOCS AIT at subsystem and system level.
