Its mission is to shape the development of Europes space capability and ensure that investment in space continues to deliver benefits to the citizens of Europe and the world. Under the direct authority of the Director General, the Director of Science is responsible for contributing to ESAwide management, supporting the ESA Director General in discharging his responsibility and tasks and participating in the pursuit of ESAs overall objectives. The Director contributes, in the area of Space Science and Exploration, to forming the Team of Teams at senior management level. In the framework of the ESA matrix organisation comprising programme directorates and support directorates, the Director of Science, under delegation from the Director General, is responsible for the definition, planning and execution of the Agencys Science Programme, for setting the cooperative links with the related programmes of ESA Member States and international partners and for the definition of the scientific elements of exploration projects as well as of the PRODEX Programme. Heshe will provide, as required, scientific advice and support to programmes managed by other directorates of the Agency. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should be toplevel scientists of high international repute with indepth knowledge and experience in functions similar to those described above. Experience in flight hardware and management of largescale international scientific projects is an important asset. Key qualities required for the post are an innovative spirit and a strategicallyoriented mind, a proven capacity to lead change and manage people and teams, excellent relationship management and negotiation skills and the ability to influence highlevel decisions.
