This position, based near Frankfurt in Germany, is for a Consultant with experience in system design, software development, operation, maintenance and trouble shooting of large complex realtime data processing systems for meteorological satellites. Our client is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. The successful candidate will be part of the clients Supporting Applications Engineering team supporting the maintenance and evolution of off line Ground Segment elements, specifically for quality control, calibration and validation, data visualisation and auxiliary data management and services. The application software is mainly developed in CC, PERL, and Python. For data visualisation a good knowledge in IDL and ENVI is required. The duties will include a range of tasks, from the support of the day to day operation and maintenance, the analysis, design, development and testing of the facilities which also includes the handling of anomalies, upgrades and configuration changes for these facilities. The key experience and skills sought are Operating and maintaining software systems in a UNIX based environment CC programming language experience in a UNIX based environment Use of and application programming of database systems Oracle, Informix, PostgresSQL and MySQL Competence in the use of scripting languages shell scripting and highlevel languages Python, Java Knowledge of web technologies, programming and markup languages Apache, CGI, JavaScript, UML Competence in software testing, unit test suite maintenance, automated testing, verification and validation The working language is English.
