A storm system that has brought more than 5 inches of badly needed rain to parts of the Bay Area since Sunday is on its way out Tuesday, but another one is right behind it, a National Weather Service forecaster said. Since Sunday, 2.5 inches of rain has fallen in San Francisco, more than 5 inches have fallen in some areas of the Peninsula and 3 inches has fallen in Oakland.

A wet, heavy snow storm on the Sierra's eastern front snarled traffic around Lake Tahoe, closed schools in Reno and caused power outages for tens of thousands of northern Nevadans.
