Amazon on Wednesday rolled out its Music Unlimited cut-rate subscription streaming service, available on its Echo, Echo Dot and Amazon Tap devices for as little as $4 a month for a single device. Hulu gently casts eye abroad - CEO
2015-10-06 10:36:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Streaming TV service Hulu CEO Mike Hopkins said that the company is looking at new markets though it doesn not have current plans for international expansion, Bloomberg reported. Speaking at a TV industry conference in Cannes, Hopkins said that it was looking at adoption and broadband penetrations around the world. The CEO said Hulu is still on the hunt for an original series hit that would define its service in the same way that "The Sopranos" lifted Time Warner's HBO more than a decade ago, "Mad Men" lifted AMC and "South Park" lifted Comedy Central. Hopkins sees multi-channel bundling in the US thriving "for years to come," and said that most customers add internet-delivered over-the-top (OTT) content from providers such as Hulu or Netflix without turning off their cable subscriptions. So-called shaving or downsizing of TV packages is "more of an issue," he said, citing Showtime and HBO offering their own streaming services so consumers don't have to pay for them through a TV provider.
