About 3,600 NV Energy customers near downtown were without power for about two hours this morning. Power was out from about 8:25 a.m. until shortly after 10 a.m. The outages were scattered, with the largest near Olive and Fremont streets southeast of the downtown.

People across northern Arizona couldn't use the Internet, their cellphones or landlines for several hours Wednesday after someone vandalized a fiber-optic line that brings communications to a large part of the state, officials said. Businesses couldn't process credit card transactions, ATMs didn't function, law enforcement databases were unavailable, and even weather reports were affected in an area stretching from north of Phoenix to Flagstaff, about 100 miles away.

Outage halts Internet, cell service in northern Arizona

CenturyLink spokesman Alex Juarez says the outage was first reported around noon Wednesday and is affecting people in an area from just north of Phoenix up to Flagstaff, about 100 miles away. Juarez says the company believes a cut fiber-optic line is the cause, but that hasn't been confirmed.
