Turkcell confirms bid for TeliaSonera stake in Fintur

(Telecompaper) Turkcell announced that its board approved a binding offer for buying TeliaSonera's stake in their Eurasian joint venture Fintur. Fintur includes mobile operators in Kazakhstan (Kcell), Azerbaijan (Azercell), Moldova (Moldcell) and Georgia (Geocell) and is already 41.45 percent owned by Turkcell. The Turkish oeprator said it would make an offer for TeliaSoner'a 58.55 percent in Fintur and the 24 percent TeliaSonera holds directly in Kcell. The company did not disclose any financial details of the bid. TeliaSonera announced in September 2015 that it plans to exit the Eurasian markets in order to concentrate on its Nordic operations.

Turkcell to make offer for TeliaSonera's stake in Fintur

(Telecompaper) Turkcell said it plans to make a non-binding offer to buy the portion of TeliaSonera's 58.55 percent stake in Fintur Holdings. Turkcell holds 41.45 percent in Fintur, which controls the Moldcell, Azercell, Kcell and Geocell mobile operators from Moldova, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Georgia. Turkcell intends to gain control of Fintur in 2016 "if all the negotiations go well," CEO Kaan Terzioglu told reporters on 17 November in Istanbul, according to Bloomberg. TeliaSonera said in September that it plans to exit Asia and ex-Soviet markets to focus on business in Europe and its home Nordic region. Other companies also showed their interest in acquiring TeliaSonera's stake in TeliaSonera and Turkcell's joint venture, a TeliaSonera spokesman said.

Turkcell to consider bid for TeliaSonera stake in Fintur

(Telecompaper) Turkcell said it will look at buying out its partner TeliaSonera in their Fintur joint venture in Eurasia. The statement follows TeliaSonera's announcement that it plans to exit the Eurasia region and focus on its European operations. Turkcell holds 41.45 percent and TeliaSonera 58.55 percent in Fintur, which controls the  mobile operators Moldcell (Moldova), Azercell (Azerbaijan), Kcell (Kazakhstan) and Geocell (Georgia). Turkcell has been looking to expand in the region, most recently buying out its partner in Ukraine. The company said it will appoint a strategic and financial advisor to look at options for buying the remaining shares in Fintur.
