Some 20 years after it was first implemented in Netscape Navigator, one of the most reviled and widely abhorred pieces of web surfing history has finally been killed. With the release of Firefox 23, the HTML tag is no longer supported by any major browser. Firefox 23 also introduces a new, simplified logo, and the option to turn JavaScript off has been removed from the Options window.
Speedy Magnetite Switch Makes Blink of an Eye Seem Poky

Researchers at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory at Stanford University have created an experimental switch that goes between on and off in one trillionth of a second. This was done by blasting samples of magnetite with a laser to rearrange their atomic structure. The scientists then used ultrabright, ultrashort X-ray pulses to measure how long it took for the switch to go from off to on.

Google releases Chrome 28 with Blink browser engine

Google on Tuesday released Chrome 28, the first polished version of the browser to use the company's home-grown "Blink" rendering engine. On Windows, the upgrade also sported Google's new notification service that lets developers of Chrome apps and add-ons display messages and alerts outside the browser window.The upgrade was the first since May 21, when Google shipped Chrome 27 and touted some minor performance improvements.
