US passes 400 mln mobile connections, data traffic grows 14% in 2017

(Telecompaper) The US passed 400 million mobile connections at the end of 2017, up 1.1 percent from 395.5 million at the end of 2016, according to the latest annual report from industry group CTIA. The number of smartphones rose 4.3 percent to 273.2 million, equal to 82 percent of Americans, while data-only devices jumped by 19.5 percent to 126.4 million at the end of 2017.

Finnish average mobile data use reaches 26 GB in H2

(Telecompaper) Finnish communications regulator Ficora said that in the second half of 2017, average consumption of data on the mobile network was almost 26 GB per Finn. For mobile subscriptions, usage averaged out at 10 GB and for mobile broadband subscriptions, it was almost 37 GB. The total number of mobile subscriptions remained almost unchanged at 9.5 million in 2017.
Orange introduces first unlimited mobile data plan in Belgium

(Telecompaper) Orange Belgium has launched what it says is the first mobile subscription with unlimited mobile data in Belgium. The deal will become available from 12 February, starting at EUR 40 per month. The Eagle plans will provide unlimited SMS and calls, plus unlimited mobile data.

China Mobile 9-month profit grows 4.6% as data traffic doubles

(Telecompaper) China Mobile saw its operating revenue reach CNY 569.5 billion for the first nine months of 2017, which represents an increase of 4.9 percent year-on-year. Revenue from telecommunications services amounted to CNY 515.3 billion, up 7.1 percent compared to the year-earlier period. EBITDA stood at CNY 211.3 billion, up 5.5 percent year-on-year, while profit rose 4.6 percent to CNY 92.1 billion for the 9-month period.
