Is the Internet Turning Donald Trump - and You - Into an Idiot?
2016-08-08 19:13:47| TechNewsWorld
President Obama was viewed as the first techie presidential candidate when he launched his campaign, and he has been connected at the hip with Google for a large part of both terms. However, the brilliance his teams displayed with using analytics never seemed to carry over into running the country, which was disappointing. Most of the U.S. government still has systems that are decades out of date.
EU, US deal on personal data transfers goes into effect
2016-07-12 15:10:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) The European Commission has approved the Privacy Shield agreement with the US on the transfer of personal data cross the Atlantic. The Commission said that the final agreement was amended following concerns from the EU data protection authorities (Art. 29 working party) and the European Data Protection Supervisor, as well as a resolution of the European Parliament. This resulted in a number of clarifications and improvements compared to the draft agreement presented in February, on issues such as bulk collection of data, strengthening the new ombudsperson and more explicit obligations on companies as regards limits on retention and onward transfers. Once the Commission sends its 'adequacy decision' to the member states of the EU, and the agreement is published in the US Official Journal, the agreement will come into effect immediately.

A man was recently burned alive outside a supermarket in Caracas for stealing the equivalent of $5. The country has been on a downward spiral for so many years, says Cynthia Arnson, director...

2016-05-31 04:25:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Guardian: Greg Hunt has conducted one of the strangest manoeuvres of his already rather gymnastic career, over the erasure of Australia from a United Nations report on climate change. Guardian Australia had broken the story that all mentions of Australia and the Great Barrier Reef had been scrubbed from the report at the request of the environment department. Hunt first denied knowing about it but then justified the move with reasons that went beyond those provided by the department. In fact the full...
