UPC fined CHF 30 mln for refusing to share ice hockey TV rights

(Telecompaper) The Swiss competition commission Comco has hit UPC Switzerland with a CHF 30 million fine for abusing ice hockey broadcasting rights. UPC Switzerland acquired broadcasting rights in 2016 for games of the Swiss Ice Hockey Championship for the seasons 2017-2022. It refused to supply Swisscom with access to the matches for years, Comco found, adding that this practice is illegal under anti-trust law.
Sunrise shareholders tender 82% shares to UPC Switzerland, to become Liberty Global subsidiary

(Telecompaper) Liberty Global said that based on preliminary numbers, Sunrise shareholders have tendered 81.98 percent of its shares to UPC Switzerland. This means that the minimum acceptance condition has been met, namely the tender of two thirds of the fully diluted share capital of Sunrise. The result of the first tender offer is subject to confirmation in the definitive notice of the interim results scheduled for 14 October.

Salt mulls legal action against Sunrise over merger with UPC

(Telecompaper) Swiss operator Salt said it is considering legal action against Sunrise for infringing contractual rights established as part of Salt's Swiss Open Fibre joint venture with Sunrise. The companies had announced plans to set up the joint venture to manage the roll-out of broadband networks after Sunrise's attempt to acquire UPC Switzerland failed.

UPC, Swisscom agree to open up MySports, Teleclub to each other

(Telecompaper) UPC Switzerland and Swisscom have signed a distribution agreement to provide access to live sports over their respective premium services, MySports and Teleclub. MySports is part of UPC Switzerland and also distributed by other operators through the Suissedigital association, while Swisscom owns Teleclub via CT Cinetrade. To date, the services have been exclusive to the pay-TV operators.
