Outcome of EGM capital increase vote for Sunrise takeover of UPC Switzerland still uncertain - report

(Telecompaper) The takeover of UPC Switzerland by Sunrise is still opposed by shareholders who own at least 30 percent of the voting rights, a Reuters survey shows. The investors would vote against the capital increase to provide the financial means to support the transaction worth CHF 6.3 billion.

Freenet reaffirms decision to vote against capital increase to finance Sunrise UPC takeover

Swiss competition authority approves UPC takeover by Sunrise

(Telecompaper) Swiss competition commission Weko announced that it has approved the takeover of UPC Switzerland by Sunrise. Weko conducted an in-depth examination of the proposed merger and concluded that it does not build or reinforce a dominant position in any of the markets analysed.

UPC Switzerland starts offer of 1 Gbps broadband nationwide

(Telecompaper) UPC Switzerland said that it has started to offer 1 Gbps broadband internet nationwide. Customers who choose the gigabit service will receive a new Giga Connect Box with eleven integrated antennas for Wi-Fi connections.

Last week in telecoms: balance sheets taking centre stage, resistance against Sunrise's UPC deal increases

(Telecompaper) Earnings seaon is coming to an end, giving operators and rating agencies a moment to look at the balance sheets. M&A was mostly limited to the ill-fated Sunrise/UPC deal in Switzerland. The biggest winners on the stock exchange in week 37 included Intelsat (+14%), 1&1 Drillisch (+10%) and SES (+7.5%). InterXion (-6.8%), Forthnet (-6.7%) and Play (-5.2%) suffered the steepest losses. The Telecompaper Stock Index European Telecom Services was up 0.9 percent in week 37, the EuroStoxx 50 did better with a 1.6 percent gain.
