ICASA issues updated DTT regulations

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has published regulations related to DTT broadcasting in the country. The purpose of the regulations is to promote diversity and competition as well as prescribe conditions for assignment of multiplex channel capacity.

Microsoft to launch DTT tuner for Xbox One in October

(Telecompaper) Microsoft will launch the Xbox One Digital TV Tuner in the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain in late October, giving Xbox One customers a free-to-air DTT alternative to accessing TV content from a cable or satellite STB. The new digital TV tuner will support free-to-air DVB-T, DVB-T2 and DVB-C standards. It will support TV viewing in Snap mode, whereby users can watch TV on the side a leave the main screen for games, Skype or other apps. Customers will also be able to pause live TV, to use the OneGuide TV listings, including VoD and favourite channels, and to change channels by voice with the Kinnect add-on. The DTT tuner will cost GBP 24.99 in the UK and EUR 29.99 in the four other European markets.

EBU says LTE not a viable alternative to DTT distribution

Thailand's NBTC proposes 690 DTT receiver subsidy coupoon

Thailand's National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has proposed a value of 690 baht ($22) for the digital TV subsidy coupons that it will distribute by mail to 22 million households in the country.

DTT share grows in Poland in 1H 2014

According to Nielsen Audience Measurement, the share of households watching digital terrestrial television in Poland grew from 30.3% to 33.3% during the first half of 2014, largely taking share from cable TV which fell from a share of 33% to 30.8%.
