In a surprising move, United Technologies Corp. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Louis R. Chnevert has informed the company's board of directors of his immediate retirement, the company announced Monday. The board tapped Gregory J. Hayes, the company's chief financial officer, to replace Chnevert as president, chief executive and director, and Edward A. Kangas to serve as non-executive chairman of the board, the company said.
