Concord: Man arrested after Payless ShoeSource robbed

A man entered a Payless ShoeSource inside the Park-n-Shop shopping center in the 1600 block of Willow Pass Road just before 8:30 p.m., pulled a gun and demanded money, Concord police Corp. Chris Blakeley said in a statement. Police did not immediately identify the man who was arrested but said he is 39 years old and from Pleasant Hill.

A month after Mayor Tim Grayson returned campaign contributions linked to Lennar Urban, a competitor has raised troubling questions about the integrity of the selection process for the Concord Naval Weapons Station developer. In a strongly worded letter to City Manager Valerie Barone, the attorney for Catellus Development Corp. demanded that the city investigate whether Lennar and its associates had improperly lobbied the City Council in violation of the negotiating agreement both firms signed in May. Catellus also asked why staff failed to recommend a preferred master developer, as expected.

Neighbors upset about noise want to stop Concord Airport expansion

Residents of The Settlements, a neighborhood in Charlotte near the Concord Regional Airport, say they are opposed to any further expansion of that busy airport. In an email to WBTV, the president of the Homeowners Association says that noise levels have become much higher since Allegiant Air began its passenger service from the airport.
