(Telecompaper) French operator Bouygues Telecom has announced the launch of LTE-Advanced services in Lyon, Bordeaux, Grenoble, and the Paris suburbs of Vanves, Issy-les-Moulineaux, Malakoff and Rosny-sous-Bois. The operator, which calls its service 4G+, expects to be the first in France to offer LTE-A commercially. There is no extra charge to use LTE-A, which offers theoretical peak speeds of over 220 Mbps, twice as fast as LTE. Bouygues Telecom Entreprises will start selling the first 4G+ terminal, the Huawei 4G+ box, on 1 July. Bouygues Telecom will release the Bbox Nomad 4G+ hotspot for consumers in July and its first 4G+ smartphones in September. Bouygues Telecom confirms plan to cut 1,516 jobs

2014-06-12 08:42:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) French operator Bouygues Telecom has presented a transformation plan to its works council that would see the operator reduce its workforce by 1,516 employees, or 17 percent, from 2015 as it strives to secure an independent future. Bouygues will reposition its business around three priorities: developing new usages and mobile internet by continuing to invest in its 4G mobile network, launching "very aggressively-priced" internet and fixed telephony offers all year round, and strengthening its service commitment. The transformation plan will see Bouygues enhance and modernise its store network, although in-store employees and customer advisers in direct contact with customers will not be affected by the redundancy plan.

Orange hires banks to assess bid for Bouygues - report

2014-06-05 09:41:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) French telecom group Orange has hired Credit Suisse and Lazard banks to assess the potential acquisition of competitor Bouygues Telecom, a deal that could be worth more than EUR 6 billion, two people close to the matter told Reuters. The French government, which owns 27 percent of Orange, seeks a return to three MNOs to enable operators to invest in fibre. A combined Orange-Bouygues would have a 49 percent share of mobile subscribers and a 48 percent share of brodband customers. Remedies would include disposing of some customers, selling mobile frequencies and most of the Bouygues network to Iliad.
