SFR, Bouygues agree on network-sharing venture

2014-02-03 09:17:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Bouygues Telecom and SFR have reached an agreement on sharing network infrastructure. The French mobile operators first announced in July 2013 talks on the matter and have now struck a deal. The shared infrastructure will target 57 percent of the population, those living outside the 32 biggest cities in France, providing them with better indoor and outdoor coverage and higher quality of service. SFR and Bouygues will set up a joint venture company to run the shared infrastructure. The agreement covers the radio sites and equipment for 2G, 3G and 4G services. Each operator will continue run its own commercial and pricing strategy, as well as its own core network and frequencies. The aim is to complete the network integration by the end of 2017. French telecom regulator Arcep said it welcomed the agreement as a way to improve services to customers. Along with the competition regulator, it will examine the SFR-Bouygues deal in the coming weeks.

Bouygues adds free roaming in Europe, DOMs to Sensation plan

2014-01-22 12:33:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) French operator Bouygues Telecom will include calls, SMS and mobile internet when roaming in Europe and French overseas counties free in its Sensation mobile plans from 24 January. The Sensation plans start at EUR 29.99 a month for unlimited calls and SMS with 3GB of data and no handset or tie-in period, or EUR 36.99 with a smartphone. The step by Bougyes to include roaming in the monthly allowance follows rival Free Mobile's offer of inclusive roaming in Italy, Portugal and the DOMs for 35 days a year at no extra charge. Bouygues highlights as a major advantage for its customers the fact that they will no longer need to switch off their phone's mobile data setting when they cross a border and can continue to use their favourite apps without fear of bill shock. Orange France is reportedly also considering a move to include roaming on other Orange networks abroad as part of its monthly plans.
